Craig Churchward is the transportation landscape architect and Jack Broz is the transportation engineer that I would put on my dream team of transportation professionals. Both are extremely knowledgeable, skilled, experienced, and innovative. They are both leaders and mentors, developing, rather than following, advancements in Context Sensitive Solutions, Complete Streets, Visual Quality Management, and Design Flexibility. As a team, they are a force where 1+1=10, enabling clients, regulators, and the public to think out of our traditional boxes to understand and solve transportation’s "real problems” in a more collaborative, creative, inclusive, cost-effective, and successful way.

When I have been asked to recommend a consultant landscape architect or engineer, I have consistently recommended Craig and Jack. For the sake of protecting my own professional credibility and relationships, I have never offered such recommendations in a casual manner. I have done so with total confidence that potential clients would be delighted or amazed, by the services they would provide. Now that they are practicing together once again, it is easy to recommend Avenue Design Partners as the go-to transportation planning and design firm.

“I had the privilege of working with Craig Churchward to develop a Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) Training Program for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Craig demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of complex transportation issues and a commitment to stakeholder engagement, which became the cornerstone of MDOT’s CSS training.

The success of this training allowed MDOT to embed the principles of CSS across the department, from program development, to project scoping through design, construction and maintenance.”
